July 14 afternoon-Cafe Sacher

For the July birthdays in the group we went to Cafe Sacher. Click on the title of the posting to learn the history of this special dessert. It is a secret recipe, but I know my son-in-law could make the dessert.

July 14- Mozart and the Free Masons

Very cool lesson in a very warm setting. I might want to read Dan Brown's new book The Lost Symbol.
After Richard's lecture, we began to present our projects outlines. Everyone liked mine.

July 13-Lunch

Sharman, Mary Beth and I went to a very old Vienna Restaurant for lunch. It was recommended in the Rick Steves' book. It was very good. The weather is still very hot.

Musicians' Graves in Vienna

Here I am at Mozart's grave. Actually they are not 100% sure if the remains are Mozart's. We went here after our morning class. It is still very hot in Vienna.

Finally our Bratislava film

Mrs. Francis filmed this a few weeks ago but due to technical problems it was just posted on You Tube. I did not see the Vienna Boys Choir personally because tickets had to be purchased before our arrival. I hope you enjoy her film.

July 11-Melk Abbey

We took the train to Melk and then walked up to the monastery. It overlooks the Danube. We had lunch after our self-tour and then took a ship back cruising on the Danube. It was very hot again. July 10 afternoon-Liechtenstein Museum

I went to this museum by myself. It is next to our hotel. It was great. There was a wedding going on there. American songs! Maybe a destination wedding. Click on the title for a link to the museum.

July 10 am Nastchmarkt

Karen, Sharman, Mary Beth and I went shopping at the Nastchmarkt. I got some great souvenirs. We had fun. Click on the title for a link to the Nastchmarkt.


The Naschmarkt is Vienna's most popular market. Located at the Wienzeile over the Wien River it is about 1,5 kilometers long.

We took a one day bus trip to Prague. It was very hot and we started at the top of the city and walked down for two hours. It was worth it because our tour guide on the bus was great. Long day.

July 8-University of Vienna

Ryan check out the cafe at the University of Vienna. All college students need their coffee break.

Film Festival at the Rathausplatz

We went to the festival at the Rathausplatz for dinner. There are many different food booths. There was live music. The food was great. There are tables and chairs and real glasses and plates. The people are polite and there is no litter. We did not stay for the film which is shown on a very big screen at dark. We have class tomorrow.
